Background:
The Civic Center, located at 10610 West Oakland Park Boulevard, was completed in 1997. Under the Leisure Services General Obligation Bond, the east wing of the Civic Center was expanded, and the Athletic Club area of the building was renovated. This work provided much needed programing space for the residents. Subsequently, replacement of the fire alarm system throughout the original building and the replacement of air conditioning systems in the west wing were completed.
The Civic Center Phase 2 Improvements project proposes to address a number of miscellaneous issues both inside and outside of the facility. Much of the work is necessary to replace materials that need updating or have reached the end of their useful life. The project consists of the renovation of miscellaneous items at the Civic Center, including restrooms with lockers, walkway repair, paver repair, landscape planter replacement, bollard replacement, and other small repairs within the building.
On October 22, 2024, the City Commission approved Project Agreement PA-24-036-WZ with Walters Zackria Associates, PLLC (WZA) to provide design, bidding and permitting services for the Civic Center Phase 2 Project, with an agreement expiration date of October 22, 2025. Subsequently, on October 21, 2025, the Director of Utilities approved a one-year extension of the project agreement, extending its term through October 22, 2026. The design plans are nearing completion, and City staff is finalizing the facility’s operational requirements for incorporation into the final plan set.
This First Amendment requests approval to extend Project Agreement PA-24-036-WZ with WZA through December 31, 2027, to allow the Consultant additional time to complete the design, bidding, and permitting services. WZA is not requesting any additional remuneration as part of this First Amendment.
