Background:
The MIAMI REALTORS® + RWorld has notified the City of its intent to donate large-scale “SUNRISE” letters to be installed at a City-owned location. The approximately 48-inch-high letters will be provided in a white finish and securely installed by the City on a concrete surface. The City may retain the standard white finish or pursue a custom design by a local artist. There is no cost to receiving this donation.
The project is being pursued in support of an application for funding through the National Association of Realtors (NAR) Placemaking Grant Program. The NAR Placemaking Grant Program supports projects that enhance public spaces, strengthen community identity, encourage tourism, and create engaging destinations for residents and visitors. MIAMI REALTORS® + RWorld has partnered with municipalities throughout South Florida on similar city-name landmark projects.
City staff evaluated several potential locations and recommends placing the letters within the open concrete area at Welleby Park on the pedestrian area in front of the lake. The location would create a distinctive gateway feature, enhance the appearance of the park, and provide an “Instagrammable” destination for residents and visitors.
Commission approval is therefore requested to accept the donation and authorize the City to proceed with the project in coordination with MIAMI REALTORS® + RWorld.
