Background:
The Fire Rescue Department was awarded a grant from the Florida Department of Health in the total amount of $9,553.05, of which the city will receive $7,164.79 with a $2,388.26 City of Sunrise match. The grant award is for the purchase of specialized software to be installed on two (2) cardiac monitors to measure carboxyhemoglobin, a critical parameter for measuring carbon monoxide poisoning.
Integrating this software will provide Fire Rescue Department personnel with a more accurate and comprehensive assessment of patients' oxygen status, especially in cases of suspected carbon monoxide poisoning. This software utilizes a unique algorithm to differentiate between oxyhemoglobin and carboxyhemoglobin, thereby providing a more accurate diagnosis that can be lifesaving.
It is requested that the City Commission approve this resolution to accept the award of this grant funding. The resolution authorizes the Fire Chief, subject to City Attorney review and approval, to sign the documents needed to execute the agreement and authorize procurement.
The grant funds and the City's match will be encumbered upon award of the equipment purchase.
