The Unsafe Structures Board hears and determines appeals regarding actions and decisions of the Building Official; hears and reviews applications submitted by the Building Official for review of his or her actions when a decision, as indicated in a notice of violation, has not been complied with; and affirms, modifies, or reverses the decisions of the Building Official upon appeal or application for review. The Board, through its Secretary, transmits the record, including all exhibits, instruments, papers, and transcripts of its proceedings, to the court in the event of an appeal. The Board also hears and determines appeals from actions and decisions of the Building Official and Building Division pursuant to the applicable minimum housing code, as well as exercises all other duties and powers provided under the Florida Building Code and Florida Building Code, Broward Edition, as amended from time to time.

There are currently vacancies on the Unsafe Structures Board for the disciplines of Registered Engineer, Registered Architect, and Real Estate Property Manager. The terms for the Registered Engineer and Registered Architect positions expire December 31, 2028, while the term for the Real Estate Property Manager position expires December 31, 2027.

Four applications were received for the Registered Engineer vacancy from Mr. Roberto Guzman, Dr. Allen Hekmat, Mr. Martin Page, and Mr. Daniel Rey. One application was received for the Registered Architect vacancy from Mr. Daniel Balean, and one application was received for the Real Estate Property Manager vacancy from Ms. Suheidy Ramos. All applicants are residents of the City of Sunrise.

Notification of the board vacancies was conducted through Sunrise Source email blasts, posts on the City's website and social media platforms, as well as direct mailings to individuals who hold licenses in the applicable disciplines within the City of Sunrise.

It is recommended that the City Commission consider the applications and appoint one qualified board member to each of the Registered Engineer, Registered Architect, and Real Estate Property Manager vacancies on the Unsafe Structures Board, for the respective terms indicated above.
