A Resolution of the City of Sunrise, Florida, relating to the provision of Fire Rescue Services, Facilities and Programs in the City of Sunrise, Florida; establishing the estimated Assessment Rate for the Fire Rescue Assessments for the Fiscal Year beginning October 1, 2026; directing the preparation of an assessment roll; authorizing a public hearing and directing the provision of notice thereof; and providing an effective date.  City Manager Mark Lubelski.  Susan Nabors, Director of Finance and Administrative Services.

The preliminary assessment resolution establishes the fiscal year 2026/2027 proposed rates for Fire Rescue Assessments, directs preparation of an assessment roll and directs notification to all property owners regarding the assessments, the assessment rates and notice of the upcoming public hearing. The date and time of the Fire Assessment Public Hearing shall be Monday, September 14, 2026 at 5:05 pm, at which time the City Commission will consider the adoption of a final assessment resolution that confirms the assessment. 

We are proposing to maintain the current residential rate at $309.50 for the FY 2026/2027 Budget. This rate is well below the current average residential fire rescue assessment rate in Broward County of $391.38.

The proposed rates for all categories of the Fire Assessment would cover approximately 74% of the Fire Rescue Department non-medical fire prevention and fire suppression assessable costs. The City anticipates Fire Assessment gross revenue for fiscal year 2026/2027 would be $16,567,286.

It is requested that the City Commission approve the Fire Assessment rates for all categories for FY 2026/2027.
