| Background:
The City Commission has maintained the existing property tax rate of 6.0543 mills for the last 17 consecutive years and it is recommended to once again, hold the line on the property tax rate for the City Budget by maintaining the millage rate at 6.0543 mills.
This agenda item will serve to set the maximum millage rate for the FY 2026/2027 Budget and once the proposed millage rate is approved by the Commission and submitted to the Property Appraiser's Office, the millage rate cannot be increased. The gross taxable value of the property in the City for FY 2026/2027, as of July 1, 2026, is $12,165,367,159, including new construction, additions, rehabs, etc. of $16,293,669. This value is 5.99% higher than the prior year final gross taxable value. The rolled-back rate is 5.7200 mills. The first public hearing on the budget will be Monday, September 14, 2026 at 5:05 p.m. in the City Hall Commission Chambers.
The resolution also sets the proposed voter approved debt service millage levy of 0.2865 mills to fund the FY 2026/2027 debt service for the General Obligation (GO) Bonds of the City of Sunrise. This debt service millage is lower than the current year millage of 0.3019 mills. The date and time of the public hearing will be the same as the first public hearing on the City Budget, Monday, September 14, 2026 at 5:05 p.m. in the City Hall Commission Chambers.
It is requested that the City Commission approve the resolution to set the millage rates and public hearings for the FY 2026/2027 Budget. |
