Background:
The Police Department was previously awarded a grant in the amount of $5,000.00 from the Florida Department of Transportation administered through the University of North Florida Training and Services Institute, Inc. d/b/a Institute of Police Technology Management (IPTM), for Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety High Visibility Enforcement and Support Program. The Police Department has been offered an additional $30,000 in grant funds towards this effort. The attached amendment will increase the total grant amount by $30,000 to a total of $35,000. No City match is required.
Through this project #433144-1-8404, Contract#G3E95, the Sunrise Police Department will conduct overtime for high visibility education and enforcement operations and will utilize law enforcement support to reinforce safe pedestrian, bicyclist, and driver behaviors in priority counties in Florida. The goal of this joint effort is to reduce traffic crashes, resulting in serious and fatal injuries to pedestrians and bicyclist using high visibility education and enforcement details.
To receive the additional $30,000 in grant awarded funds, it is necessary to enter into an amended agreement with the University of North Florida Training and Services Institute via Amendment #1 to Letter of Agreement and Contract. It is requested the City Commission approve the amendment to the original agreement and contract attached to this Agenda Item to effectuate this additional grant award.
