Background:

"Panthers on the Prowl" is a one-of-a-kind fundraiser benefiting the American Cancer Society, which is promoting the Florida Panthers Ice Hockey Stanley Cup Champions, and simultaneously benefitting the City's Public Art Program.

Inspired by Chicago's famous "Cows on Parade," this Public Art campaign will feature life-sized panther sculptures, displayed in key locations across South Florida. These stunning panther statues symbolize strength and resilience and the City of Sunrise panther will be proudly displayed in City Hall once painted. As part of the $5,000.00 donation, we will receive the life-sized panther sculpture ready to be mounted and painted. Once we receive the panther, we will commission an artist through a "Call to Artist" to bring the panther to life through unique and vivid colors, and possibly art mediums, for exhibition inside City Hall. This artwork will be funded through the FY 2025/2026 Public Art Capital Improvement Project.

As part of the program, the City can paint the panther; however, we are not permitted to paint, decorate, adorn, or otherwise modify the panther statue with any marks, logos, symbols, or representations associated with the Florida Panthers, Amerant Bank Arena, American Cancer Society or any other program affiliates, if the panther statue is displayed in a business setting.

Public art benefits the public as it provides social, cultural, and economic benefits by fostering community identity, stimulating civic pride, and creating economic growth through tourism and local business support. It also enhances quality of life by improving mental well-being, beautifying shared spaces such as City Hall, and encouraging social interaction and engagement.
