Background:
Pursuant to Section 2-372 of the City Code, effective January 14, 2025, the City Commission authorized the City Manager to pursue the acquisition of properties along Sunset Strip and to enter into one or more agreements, subject to final approval of such agreement(s) by the City Commission.
In accordance with this authorization, City staff has negotiated the purchase of the properties located at 1190 and 1200 Sunset Strip for a total price of $690,000.00, which represents the recent appraised value, which is included as back-up information. The combined properties consist of approximately 0.37 acres and include a one-story veterinarian clinic/animal hospital building and an adjoining parking lot.
The proposed acquisition supports implementation of the East Sunrise Improvements Master Plan, which envisions redevelopment and enhancement of the commercial area along Sunset Strip. The subject properties are situated adjacent to the recently improved 1200 Sunset Strip public parking lot, the site of the Caribbean Garden sculpture, and would be held by the City for potential future redevelopment or other strategic use.
City staff recommends approval of the Resolution authorizing the purchase of 1190 and 1200 Sunset Strip in support of the continued revitalization of the east Sunrise commercial corridor. Following City Commission approval, City Staff will conduct inspections and necessary due diligence on the property.
