The City of Sunrise, Community Development Department has received a Special Event Permit application from Teamsters Local Union 769 Holding Corporation, Inc. for the return of the "Annual Member's Appreciation Day Picnic and Food Drive" at Markham Park, scheduled for November 8, 2025. Section 16-287 of the City Code allows for the Director of Community Development to issue a special event permit within Markham Park with a maximum daily attendance of 15,000 people. This special event proposes to have 1,500 or less people in attendance.

This special event proposes the consumption of alcohol which requires a separate approval in addition to the Special Event Permit. Section 3-2 of the City Code prohibits the consumption of alcoholic beverages in any public park unless special permission is obtained from the City Commission.

Staff is in the process of reviewing the application and is requesting City Commission approval for the consumption of alcohol at the subject event in Markham Park.
