Background:
In July of 2020, the City Manager approved a Letter Agreement for Joseph Roles and Assoc., Inc. (JRA), an engineering consultant with a current Continuing Service Agreement with the City, to provide specific engineering services for the general consulting and assistance with matters related to the Broward County/FDOT project for the Sawgrass Expressway – Pat Salerno Drive Interchange Reconstruction.
The services provided by JRA are related to the Sawgrass Expressway widening and interchange improvement project currently under design by the Florida Turnpike Enterprise, a business unit of the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). JRA’s efforts are to assist with reducing the impact of the right-of-way acquisition from the City, while analyzing alternatives to construct a southbound off-ramp and northbound on-ramp at the Pat Salerno Drive interchange.
Two amendments to the Letter Agreement were subsequently approved on January 15, 2021 and July 29, 2021 bringing the total cost of services to date to $24,900.00. Additional general consulting services are required JRA in the amount of $7,100.00 to bring this project to fruition. The total cost for these services will be $32,000.00. Due to the overall project cost exceeding $25,000.00 a Project Agreement approved by the City Commission is now required to replace the existing Letter Agreement. Staff has negotiated a fee that is fair and reasonable for these services.
This project is included in the City’s Capital Improvement Program and is described within Project No. 42 in the City’s original request for qualifications for professional engineering consulting services.
