A Resolution of the City of Sunrise, Florida, approving an amended “Memorandum of Agreement” between the School Board of Broward County, Florida and the City of Sunrise, Florida to accept the Award of the FY 2020 Cops Hiring Program Grant; and providing an effective date. The City was previously awarded a COPS Hiring Program Grant through the Community Oriented Policing Services, COPS, Office. The award of the grant was reviewed and accepted at the City Commission meeting on July 14, 2020.

A memorandum of Agreement (MOA) is a requirement of  the Award Agreement Document between the City of Sunrise and the U.S. Department of Justice/ Office of Community Oriented Policing Services, for the acceptance of the COPS Hiring Program Award #2020UMWX0102.  As a recipient of the COPS Grant, the City will receive funding for one (1) additional law enforcement officer to service as a School Resource Officer (SRO). 

At the May 25, 2021 City Commission Meeting, the MOA initially approved by the School Board of Broward County was submitted to the Sunrise City Commission and approved for execution. Upon remittance of the MOA to the School Board of Broward County for their signatures and final execution they requested additional minor changes be made to the originally approved agreement.  Attached is the new amended MOA for acceptance, along with the redlined version.

It is requested that the City Commission approve the amendment MOA to allow for the City to receive the COPS Grant for partial funding for an additional School Resource Officer.
