Background:

Commissioner Douglas requested that an ordinance be drafted to provide that Charter Officers appointed after October 1, 2021 be required to establish residency within the City of Sunrise within 180 days of appointment.  The Charter Officers would be required to maintain their residency within the City of Sunrise.  They would file an initial certification of residency and an annual certification of residency.  Failure to obtain Sunrise resident status timely, failure to maintain Sunrise resident status, or falsifying Sunrise resident status shall be grounds for termination for cause.  

 

The Ordinance is attached along with the Charter Officer Initial Certification Regarding City Residency form and the Charter Officer Annual Certification Regarding City Residency form.

 

For the Commission's review, the following information is provided:

 

  • Residency Requirements within Broward County and Broward Municipalities; 
  • Statewide Residency Survey of Selected Counties/Cities; and
  • Residency Requirement for Charter Officers.
