Background:
The Sunrise Athletic Complex (SAC) construction is ongoing at this time; however, the contractor has reopened a portion of the park to allow for the Sawgrass Youth Sports Sunrise, Inc., a not for profit organization that has operated the Sunrise Hurricanes Youth Tackle Football and Cheerleading program since 2001, to hold their 2021 season. Unfortunately, the City's concessionaire recently provided notice that they are unable to continue performing the concession contract, which provides for food and beverages at SAC. In order to allow concessions for the public during the 2021 Hurricanes Season, staff is proposing to allow the Sawgrass Youth Sports Sunrise, Inc. to run the concessions stand for the current season only. Staff is planning to bid the concession contract out and/or evaluate an in-house option once the SAC construction is completed and the park is fully reopened. As part of the SAC construction, we have included a permanent concession stand, which will replace our mobile concession trailer that we have historically utilized.
This First Amendment provides for the use of the City's concession facilities the Sunrise Athletic Complex at no cost to the organization for concession sales during scheduled games and practices during the 2021 season. Staff has the executed copy on file in the Leisure Services Department.
This First Amendment also adds updated standard contractual indemnification and E-Verify employment eligibility language.
It is requested that the City Commission authorize the amendment to the contract to allow for concession sales during the 2021 season only.
